2006 Rugby Season

A note of thanks to the U11D team ...

Each year it seems most teams have one or two "star" players who score all the points and make all the tackles. Everyone gets exited, and congratulates the team, but that's not teamwork, and that's not the point of Rugby.

These teams also seem to have a number of players who aren't very good, and tend to hide in the background hoping not to be given the ball. This is always a problem in grading when a club doesn't have enough players to have a number of teams.

This year, while it's fair to say we had no one stand-out star, everyone pulled together and as the year went on, the teamwork and support got stronger. Even when we weren't winning (but we came second lots of times!) there was still the attitude of fighting on, and not giving up! It's fair to say all the players got involved and the growth in all the boys during the year, both in skills and more importantly attitude was like nothing we had seen before. We simply had no weaker boys, and all were willing to give it their all.

On behalf of the coaches and managers, it was a pleasure to train with you guys.

It was fitting end of the season when the referee on the last game went out of his way to congratulate the team on their drive, enthusiasm and teamwork, and he said that it was an honor to ref such a team. That's the point of Rugby!
