Florence Revisited

Florence Part 2 Photos Here

We still didn't really get organised for this - we were trying to stay over and spend 2 nights here, then we tried to stay over on the way to Verona, but in either case, we couldn't get rooms where we wanted, so it was a simple day trip.

While the big sites are booked out months in advance (much smaller capacity than London or Paris where you just turn up), we managed to get into the Brancacci Chapel which houses some of the most significant Renaissance frescos.

The Chapel is part of the Santa Maria del Carmine church which is in the last surviving bits of old Florence.

Now we get into serious Culture!

The Ferrari Museum had the two things Anne 'really' likes in life - Cars and Speed - and the tour couldn't go fast enough for her!

Three to One however, mean't we spend quite a bit of time here, including lunch (and Anne's introduction to Italian sparking wine...)

A tour of the factory is difficult to organise, and great if you like machinery - the Galleria however, is where the really interesting bits are, and we got to see all the significant racing cars, engines, transmissions, etc. lined up next to each other so you can see the differences over the years.

Fantastic and thoroughly recommended detour.

Verona quickly became a favourate, for the same reasons San Gimignano did - it's smaller, easier to get around, and knows what it's there for.

In this case, where San Gimignano was for the olden days, Verona is right into shopping!

We stayed in a small hotel a stone's throw from Piazza Bra - the larger of the two main Piazzas in the old town, and at night we cruised the Via Mazzini (along with 20,000 other people!)
